I'm trying to get a better idea of where this particular ancestor I'm viewing was located. In one census he's in the 33rd subdivision and on the next census he's in the 6th district. All in Hancock County,TN. Does anyone have any info on census districts, etc. here?

  2. Tennessee was settled while still part of North Carolina as a meets and bounds state. Later it was divided into sections townships and ranges. You will need to consult the genealogy Redbook to locate which system was used on which censuses. Even today Tennessee is part meets & bounds and part sections.
