  1. Yes. Take about half a dozen really deep breaths. This will increase your ability to stay under longer, and you will be able to put maximum effort into the dive. Try also to get perpendicular quickly so that the weight of your legs in the air will start you off better. Fight hard to get down quickly, coming up is a doddle. Good luck.

  2. Hi

Discuss with your course tutor and watch how those who are sucessful manage to retrieve the dummy.  Practice surface diving in shallower water and build up the depths you are reaching.  Make sure you start as if doing a hand stand so your legs push you down.  Don't panic and don't rush down, this uses your oxygen up too quickly so take your time.  Learn how to equalise pressure in your ears by swallowing as you go down.

You can pass the lifeguarding course recovering the dummy from as little as 1.5 metres but you could only work in pools up to this depth.

    Hope this helps

  3. i am a trainer assessor and you can dive into the pool to retrieve the dummy which will give you momentum to get to the bottom of the pool

  4. im afraid if you can't get the dummy to the surface how are you going to get an adult in a real situation to the surface ??

even with a surface dive you should be able to position yourself so you can have a strong grip of the dummy and drive with your legs to the surface. good luck
