Division 2-Slazenger Cup: Thomas Ellis overwhelms Cameron Lubransky in Men’s Singles event
Men’s Singles campaigner Thomas Ellis played flawless badminton and intercepted Cameron Lubransky in Division 2-Slazenger Cup at Hamilton, New Zealand on August 10, 2012.
This battle, which was part of a match between Canterbury and Big Brand Leisure, proved real test of their physical and mental fitness as it prolonged to three exhausting sets before ending with concluding figures of 12-21, 21-10 and 20-22.
Cameron Lubransky failed to register his mark and surrendered after facing a 1-2 defeat whereas Thomas Ellis, despite of putting a fluctuated performance, emerged as victor.
The first set was completely one sided affair in second half as Thomas put a laudable effort and earned opening match point with distinction.
He took some time to read his rival’s game but then completely outclassed him technically and tactically.
In first half, both shuttlers remained close on points table as they did not allow each other to gain a notable advantage.
However, situation changed dramatically in second half as Thomas launched a brisk attack and pushed his opponent on the back-foot.
He gathered valuable points at steady pace and reached at dominating position in third quarter of the set. He did not lose this rhythm and swept the table with a favourable margin of 21-12.
The following game was replay of first one but in reverse manner as the Canterbury campaigner counter-balanced the situation in even more impressive manner.
This time Cameron did not waste time and established an unassailable lead immediately in the beginning. He maintained this momentum in next couple of rallies and finished first half with an indomitable total of 11.
Later part of the game saw him injecting more intensity in his campaign and stamping Thomas Ellis with a significant difference. He put his competitor under pressure by raising the lead and then blew him away with a staggering knock of 21-10.
The decider was most entertaining part of the tussle as both contenders put all in their possession to avoid a woeful defeat. They kept the audience glued to the chairs until last shot was played.
Finally, Thomas Ellis tipped the scale in his favour by registering 22-20 score on the board.
