Divorce Details?

Does anyone know how I can find out details of a divorce in the 1970's or 1980's? Thanks

  1. ***If the divorce occurred in your area, go to the courthouse and see if they are available.  They should be classified as public records, and as such should be open to the public.  If it was not in your area, try contacting a volunteer with Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (http://www.raogk.org) in the county the divorce is filed in, and make sure that they volunteer to look for public records, etc., and ask them to look for it for you.  They should charge you only the expenses involved in getting the information you request (ie. copies, etc.)

    You may need to pay a fee to the appropriate state agencies to receive official verification of divorce records.
