Just found out that the Bristolian boxer Dixie Brown is my great Uncle. Just wondering if anyone out their is related to him in any way or has any stories to tell me?

Please don't tell me to get an account of genesreunited or any other pay sites.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Nope, not here that I know of.  But it sounds like a good ol" down-home country name, maybe from the south?

  2. UK answer.

I'm not related to Dixie Brown, but I have an interest in boxing due to the fact that my gr/gr uncle was a boxer, his name was Jack Robinson and he was Nottingham based, I had a look to see if they had met in the ring but they haven't as far as I can see. I found this other information for you though.

    Dixie Brown(Bristol) total bouts 85 - active 1910s to 1930s

    Hope this helps.

  3. a great uncle is a brother to one of your grandparents.  It should not be hard to verify that (there may have been some generations or greats left out? )

Preliminary research starts with you, and works back.. living people will normally not be online or on for-pay sites. Document your parents, then grandparents, then gr grandparents. Once you get to the time when people are dead/ in census records, the pay sites are much more valuable.

here is an article that includes some details re his family.
