Dj pa speakers amplifier help?

hey i have two 600 watt 8ohms dj speakers however i cannot use them until i buy an amplifier.

what will i need to pump my music to its max.

will i need an amp which can handle 600 watt on each channel?

what does it mean when a amp says 700 watt @ 2ohms

will my speakers ONLY work with an amp set at 8ohms?

  1. it means that if you have it set at 2 ohms, it can run 700 watts.  as for the 8 ohms, you're only going to get 600 watts, probably 300 watts per channel.  ask someone at the guitar center, or someplace where they sell PA systems.  I guarantee that they'll be able to answer your questions.  It's better to know your equipment, than THINK you do and blow something.  That gets expensive.


  2. The rating on a speaker is the MAX wattage it can safely handle.

    You will want to look for recommended specs for an amp from the speakers.

    The wattage rating for a amp is the MAXIMUM output at what impedance. Start with 200 Watts and see if you like that. Make sure the specs say the wattage, RMS 20kHz to 20Hz with a low THD all channels fully driven to be sure of the specs.

    Also make sure you match impedance correctly otherwise damage is possible.
