Retirements in Rome:

Del Potro

Gonzalez

Almagro

Roddick

Stepanek

Its a part of tennis. Its a physical game. Players retire when they are unfortunate to suffer from something that would defect their game. So can people p**s off with the djokoquit c**p.

Glad thats off my chest,

Its interesting in the 1/4 and 1/2 Nole's opponents both retired after he destroyed them in the first set.

(Almagro: 6-1; 1-0 ret'd) (Stepanek: 6-0; 1-0 ret'd)

Anyway peoples thoughts?

  1. lol Sean B, that's because davy is fed's bunny. He hasn't won a single match against fed, now how can the fed fans dislike him? Afterall it's the presence of people like him in mens tennis that roger federer is now being looked upon as the greatest ever. They don't look at it from the other angle, i.e. he's great because his opponents from a couple of years ago sucked big time. Davy is a big big example. Didn't we have Robredo also in that top 10 a couple of years ago and guys like gaston gaudio and coria (these 2 played the masters series in shanghai in 2005).

Djokovic is a major threat to fed so they dislike him, call him stupid names and give stupid reasons for hating him like he's arrogant, or he quits, or his family is ill-behaved. I like him purely because of his Tennis and that's all what matters to me.

  2. I am a big Djokovic fan. He hasn't dissapointed me so far, since I started tennis, but it is unlike him to retire. C'mon u people are being a******s. But u know what?? who pays attention to haters?? U know they are just jealous, that's what happens when u become famous, expect people to hate u because u can kick the world #1 butt. All players worked hard to achieve the goal that they can defeat the strongest one in the game, and Nole proved it. Think for a bit, that' why u Federer fans, dislike him, face it!!! Or u are the cowards! There was Federer and Davydenko in Estoril!!!!! Federer won because his opponent retired, why didn't u pick on that??? HUH??? He is not even humble with his people, at Indian Wells he didn't even sign any autographs when he lost! Or are u just blind??? I was there!!!! He didn't sign anything, he just walked away!! U people are unfair!

  3. lol funny thing is that those players were actually INJURED and didn't retire bc of sore throats...come on seriously..Djokovic is and always will be a quitter.

  4. :)) Good answer Lana...yeah.. some retire because they have to and some because they are big cowards.. one of them is Djokovic..

  5. Yes this whole tournament has been Balls ! Rome has sucked this year, it should be the defending champion in the final Mr Rafael Nadal i sure hope his foot is better for Hamburg and well The French ! Vamos Rafa

  6. del potro, almagro and roddick were injured, so that's understandable, but gonzalez and stepanek were just tired, that's not an excuse from my point of wiew.-

and nole didn't have an injury that stop him from playing, and besides ot's not the first time he casually retires......... remember wimbledon maybe??

  7. Quitting is part of tennis when it is apparent that you can't play.  Other gentlemen and champions like Federer and Nadal go ahead and finish the match, even if they lose, despite having certain ailments.  Djokoquit quits the match when he knows things don't look good for him to win anymore - that's the difference.   He was playing quite well in Monte Carlo before he his early break of serve in the second set and decided to quit.  You say its interesting how Nole's opponents quit after they were destroyed in the first set.  Well what about Nole who was not destroyed in the 1st set of Monte Carlo SF, in fact he played very well, but decided to quit after his break of serve early in the 2nd.  Use your own argument to figure out what a disgraceful champion nole is.

  8. If he doesn't have the talent, would he even won a game? Wouldn't he won by 0-6 0-1?

    You should grow up.

If you have time to criticize, do it to federer then. A true gentleman won't make excuses when he loses.

So, oh.. i'm having mono, i can't continue typing...

  9. Stepanek wasn't tired, he was  ready to puke on court!! Anna do you evan watch or understand tennis? You are so stupid and arrogant why wont you shut up about everything.

  10. You are absolutely right but I don't think it's going to stop people from singling out Djokovic.

Since Djokovic became a threat to take over the top spot some people have been looking for a reason not to like him. Unfortunately for him they've found it and they are not likely to let it go long after he stops retiring.

Interestingly, Davydenko has the most retirements of anyone on tour, he retired against Federer a few weeks ago, and has one of the most controversial retirements (the betting scandal) but he hasn't taken nearly as much flak for it.

The argument that Djokovic only retires while losing is not true. He's actually retired several times while ahead in matches. The recent Davis cup match is one of those times.

In his match with Federer he said Federer was getting a lot of balls back and the rallies were longer which is what made it difficult for him to continue with his strep throat. Very understandable if you've ever had this experience (imagine running a mile with strep or sore throat). It's sad that some people would rather focus on the cause rather than the reason. The strep throat was the cause of his retirement but the reason he retired was the long rallies were too hard for him to handle with the strep throat.
