Djourou: Arsenal will soon end their trophy drought – English Premier League news
Arsenal defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Johan-Djourou-c18779, has claimed that the Gunners will win all silverware after they finally end their six-year trophy drought.
Djourou believes Arsene Wenger’s squad has the potential and ability to bring silverware to the Emirates Stadium. “You expect better for Arsenal, of course, but I think that when this long run ends it will just go crazy and we will win everything that is
there because this club's got so much potential”
Arsenal won their last trophy in 2005 when they defeated Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup. Since then, the Gunners have failed to deliver any silverware.
Arsene Wenger’s young team were favourites to win their first trophy in six years as at one point in the season, they were the only club plying their trade in four different tournaments: UEFA Champions League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Carling
Cup.
Arsenal managed to reach the Carling Cup final after defeating the likes of Tottenham Hotspurs and Wigan Athletic in earlier in the competition only to outdone in the final by the struggling Barclays Premier League minnows, Birmingham City. Arsene Wenger’s
inexperienced squad once again failed to handle the pressure of the big occasion and a very late mix-up between the Gunners’ goalkeeper and a defender resulted in an opposition goal. Arsenal lost the final 2-1 and their barren run continued.
Following that, Arsenal never really recovered and endured miserable runs in all other competitions. Despite marking a historic victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League, the Gunners were knocked out by the Catalans, who went on
to win the coveted trophy.
Moreover, Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United in the last-8 of the FA Cup, which ended their dream of winning the domestic cup.
The Gunners’ bad form also continued in the Barclays Premier League as they only managed 12 points in last 11 matches and finished fourth in the League standings.
However, Djourou is hopeful that the Gunners will be able to end their trophy drought next season.
The Swiss defender said, “It has been six years, but I am just waiting for the moment. I wanted to win something so bad to say to those people 'shh, that's it, it is finished with and we have won something'.”
