Djurgaardens IF 0-1 Malmo FF- Swedish Allsvenskan recap
Swedish Allsvenskan is into its opening stages of the new 2011 season and the current leaders Malmo FF sneaked past Djurgaardens IF on Friday by a 1-0 margin, courtesy an injury time strike from midfielder Jimmy Durmaz. This was Malmo’s third win from as many games while Djurgaardens are yet to open their account.
Tommy Jacobson’s Iron Stoves went in with a standard 4-4-2 formation. Carl Bjork and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pa-Dembo-Touray-c28935 guarded Djurgaardens’ net.
Roland Nilsson’s Blues also went in with the same standard formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Larsson-c10002 formed a partnership upfront. Ducan Melicharek started in goal for the visitors.
Malmo got the game off to a decent start and looked firm favourites considering their recent form. With the season having just started, both the teams looked rusty in patches. The Iron Stoves were on their home strip but seemed a bit reluctant in going forward as Malmo looked to gain an early advantage.
Forwards from both the teams were unable to create much in the early proceedings as the defences stood firm. Midfielder Daniel Sjolund received the first booking of the game after committing a foul in the 33rd minute. Malmo were keen on pressing forward but were left disappointed each time they looked good to score. The home team received a massive set back when their goalkeeper, Dembo Touray, received a red card for arguing with the referee. The hosts were forced to take off one of their forwards, Bjork, in favour of the second choice goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tommi-Vaiho-c35377. To their credit, however, the Blue Stripes were terrific in defence as the first half came to a close with both teams locked at 0-0.
Both the teams showed some aggression in the second half as the game started to open up but the story continued as the score line remained untouched. Malmo’s numerical advantage slowly started to show as Djurgaardens were forced to sit back and defend. The Sky Blues had a clear advantage as they dominated most of the second half but to their disappointment, the Pride of Stockholm had an answer for everything that was thrown their way.
With just a few minutes remaining in the match, the visitors went into the fourth gear and caused havoc in the Stoves’ area. A goal was imminent, and the injury time witnessed the deadlock broken, along with the Djurgaardens’ hearts. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jimmy-Durmaz-c18560 found the back of the net in the last minute of the injury time to take Malmo atop the league table.
With this win, Malmo have now nine points from three games and are leading the Swedish Allsvenskan. Djurgaardens have a solitary point from three games and are at the 12th spot.
The Iron Stoves will take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/GAIS-c39395 on Tuesday, the 19 April while Malmo FF will host Mjallby AIF on Wednesday, the 20 April, in their next fixture.
