Dlouhy/Dolgopolov fall to the Bryan Brothers’ rage in first round – China Open 2011
The sheer dominance of the world number one duo of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of the United States continued at the China Open as well, as they completely outplayed the unseeded combination of Lukas Dlouhy from the Czech Republic
and Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine, in the opening round clash on Tuesday afternoon.
Being played on the outdoor hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Center, in Beijing, China, the contest witnessed another great display of tremendous power hitting form the American number one pair. The Bryan Brothers wrapped
up the contest in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to force their way to the quarter-final draw of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 event.
The top ranked duo registered its 48th victory of the running ATP season and appear well on course to their seventh doubles title of the year. It is the second time that the team of Dlouhy and Dolgopolov suffered a defeat
at the hands of the Bryan Brothers, as the Americans outplayed them earlier this year in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters, 6-2, 4-6, 10-1.
Bob and Mike dropped just three points on their serve in the entire matchup, reeling off 19 out of 22 first serve points in the matchup to edge past their opponents. The Americans converted four out of five break opportunities
in the contest and kept a rock solid baseline defence to drive their opponents out of the contest.
Dolgopolov already suffered a first-round exit from the singles draw of the China Open and failed to put up any real fight in the doubles as well. Dlouhy and Dolgopolov had break points on four different occasions in the game but
were denied every time by the brilliance of the top seeded duo. They held serve in just four of eight games they served in the whole matchup and finished the contest on the losing side in the end.
Bob and Mike will take on one of the strongest combinations on the field, Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic and Florian Mayer of Germany, in the next round to battle for a place in the semis of the China Open. Berdych and Mayer eased
through their opening round matchup against the unseeded Polish duo Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski, in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, to meet the top seeded team in the quarter-finals.
