Dmitri Cheryshev praises CSKA Moscow performance against Volga Nizhny Novgorod
Volga Nizhny Novgorod head coach, Dmitri Cheryshev, has heaped praise on CSKA Moscow after in the wake of his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Army Men. The two sides locked horns at Lokomotiv Stadium in what was their first respective game following the Russian
Premier League break.
Cheryshev bemoaned the Volgari performance and revealed that the home team lost ball possession too frequently in the match, which resulted in a humiliating defeat in front of the home crowd.
“We really lost to a good opponent, a disciplined opponent. Our team did not take their chances well. We made some childish errors today and they deserved the two goals scored”. Cheryshev was quoted as saying.
The former Dynamo Moscow boss refused to blame any individual for the defeat and admitted that the Army Men have improved their defence with the help technical and fast paced players.
Cheryshev insisted that the team is currently lacking the sharpness upfront but managed to control the midfield area well.
The former Sporting Gijon coach highlighted that Volgari have started playing better football since his arrival by revealing that their style of play was poor at the start of Russian Championship.
“The most important thing - the guys are geared up, pulled the opponents physically and you can see the boys are now playing a totally different football. They have a huge desire to play with the ball, pass and move and firing crosses with great composure
from the flanks. The speed is there but the team is struggling to find enough space upfront.” The 42-year-old concluded.
Volga have been defeated by Zenit St. Petersburg, Anzhi Makhachkala and Kuban Krasnodar at home previously, but the manager is confident that Volga will end their poor home form by defeating Spartak Moscow in their upcoming fixture.
Cheryshev believes that the fighting instinct has not yet vanished at the Russian club and it is only be a matter of time before Volgari hit top gear.
