Volga Nizhny Novgorod manager defends CSKA’s UEFA Champions League defeat against Real Madrid and urges them to concentrate on the Russian Premier League.
CSKA Moscow crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after suffering a humiliating 5-2 aggregate defeat against Real Madrid. The Russian outfit suffered a 4-1 defeat in Spain before claiming a 1-1 draw at Luzhniki stadium.
In the aftermath of the outcome, Volga Nizhny Novgorod manager, Dmitri Cheryshev, has lamented CSKA’s European exit. However, he praised the Russian outfit to reach the round-of-16 twice in three years.
Both clubs had equal chances to advance in the continental tournament after the first leg draw. The return leg, too, was very much in a balance until the halftime. However, CSKA failed to cope up with the pressure and put up a
disastrous second half performance.
Cheryshev went on to admit that Los Blancos are a brilliant European team and highlighted their success over the years. He revealed that the Moscow-based club would have altered the result had they taken all their chances.
“Playing against Real Madrid is always difficult. However, CSKA initiated some quick counter-attacks. Leonid Slutsky had rightly said that the Russian outfit needed to take their chances or else they will be eliminated.
“However, I believe it will not affect their mood domestically.” The former Dynamo Moscow player was quoted as saying.
Cheryshev defends the Koni, saying that they missed quality players during the game and identified http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Keisuke-Honda-c20516 and Igor Akinfeev's absence for the crunch European tie in Spain.
Honda failed to mark his European presence after sustaining a muscle injury against Zenit St. Petersburg. Akinfeev, meanwhile, has not played a competitive game ever since he sustained a shoulder injury in December last year.
Cheryshev revealed that CSKA’s latest European defeat will not affect their Russian Premier League performances and urged the Moscow-based club to win the upcoming crunch home match against Spartak Moscow.
