Dmitriev/Korolev slay Roig/Ziganshin to enter quarters – Siberia Open 2012 CH
Russian-Kazakhstani junction, Kirill Dmitriev and Evgeny Korolev, crippled the wild card entrants, Francisco Roig and Robert Ziganshin, with a breadstick at the Siberia Open 2012 on Monday. They manipulated a 6-2, 6-1 victory against their rivals to progress
into the last eight at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Tyumen, Russia.
The in-form tandem of Dmitriev and Korolev displayed perfect co-ordination to carve out the victory in straight sets. They needed 41 minutes to overpower Roig and Ziganshin and progressed into the last eight.
Dmitriev and Korolev made a powerful entry at this indoor hard court tournament taking place from 19th to 25th November. After the wild cards kept their serve in the third game, the Russian-Kazakhstani pair unleashed barrage of forehands to reel off last
five games in a row. They superbly warded off all four breakpoints they came across and converted two out of three break chances to their advantage.
The high flying Russian-Kazakhstani tandem perfected his game in the proceeding set. They winded up opening four games before their rivals could come on the score sheet. Dmitriev and Korolev pocketed the last two games and clinched the set with a breadstick.
They were never challenged with any breakpoint and cashed half of the six break chances to achieve their goal.
On the whole, the Russian-Kazakhstani challengers spilled fewer double faults and smashed three aces. They clobbered a better first serve share of 58 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 53 per cent and impressively marked 18 out of 19 points on it.
Next up for Dmitriev and Korolev are the third seeded Ukrainians, Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Ivan Sergeyev. The third seeds were broken twice but cashed four out of 14 break chances to record a 7-6(9), 6-3 score line against the Moldovan-Romanian junction,
Radu Albot and Petru-Alexandru Luncanu.
The Ukrainian tandem clobbered a better first serve share of 77 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 69 per cent and brilliantly marked 32 out of 49 points on it. They eventually sealed the deal in almost one and a half hour and ended the match with 79
points.
