Dmitriy Salita from the United States believes he deserves a title shot at Paulie Malignaggi, even though most fans dislike the idea. In his recent interview, Salita maintained that he has the right to go against Malignaggi.
It should be noted here that earlier this year, the idea of a bout between the two was regulated, just when it received negative response from the masses. Most analysts and fans replied saying Salita does not deserve a title shot even though they both are
of the same calibre.
Malignaggi currently stands with 31 wins and 4 losses, whereas Salita has bagged 33 wins and, 1 loss and 1 draw to date. Salita has a better portfolio than Malignaggi, yet he is being overlooked, at least that is what he believes. Salita’s only drawback
is that he has not competed with any top-notch fighter and he is not a fan-favourite like Malignaggi.
In his recent interview, Salita spoke about a possible bout against Paulie. He said, “I deserve that fight. I absolutely deserve that fight. We came up at the same time. Since we became pro there was talk of us fighting each other. But the timing didn't
work out. I knew when something important was on the line, it would make sense to fight each other. Myself and Paulie want the fight.”
After Manny Pacquiao’s controversial loss to Timothy Bradley, it seems like the structure of the sport is evolving. Timothy Bradley, who won the title from Pacquiao, is receiving challenges from nearly every fighter at the weight, including Malignaggi. Earlier
this week, Paulie Malignaggi spoke about the Pacquiao vs. Bradley match, calling the latter a talent-less fighter. He even challenged Bradley to the ring, saying he can easily beat the unbeaten American.
If Malignaggi is looking forward to a fight against Bradley, then Salita’s chances are reduced. On the other hand, if Bradley is looking forward to a rematch against Pacquiao or a showdown against Khan, then Malignaggi’s chances are reduced. Right now, the
whole situation is a chaos and nothing is sure as to which fighter will face which opponent.
