Dmitry Pirog scheduled to defend his WBO middleweight against Nobuhiro Ishida – Boxing News
Dmitry Pirog, the current WBO middleweight champion, is finally scheduled to defend his title for the third time against the Japanese proud Nobuhiro Ishida, the former WBA World light middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will take place on May
1, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Sport Complex Krylatskoe, Moscow, Russia and the event is being promoted by the duo of Kirill Pchelnikov of GT & KP Promotion and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
Pirog and Ishida will headline the pay-per-view whereas the non-title 10-round bout between Vyacheslav Glazkov and Gbenga Oloukun will co-headline the Tuesday night show.
Dmitry, 31, has been in a total 19 bouts and boasts an intimidating win streak. He has never lost even a single bout and collected 15 of his total wins by knocking the opponent out cold.
The Russian Pirog, while sharing his thoughts about his upcoming opponent, excitedly said that it will definitely be a tough fight which will give him much better experience as he has never fought any pugilist like the Japanese sensation Nobuhiro.
The Russian proud is overshadowed by Ishida as far as the experience is concerned. Ishida, 36, is a veteran and has been in a total 33 bouts. The orthodox pugilist has emerged victorious in 24 bouts and was able to nail just nine opponents by knockout.
Ishida has held various titles round his waist but is currently going through a bit tough time of his career. Nobuhiro has won just three of his last five bouts and unfortunately, the two bouts he lost were the title ones.
Though experience definitely gives Ishida an upper hand over Dmitry but the latter has fought and nailed many men with far better resume than Ishida. In addition, Pirog has also proudly held the WBC Baltic, WBO Asia Pacific, WBC International and WBC Asian
Boxing Council middleweight titles as well.
With the hometown advantage, a stupendous undefeated resume and decent knockout ability, Dmitry seems to have the odds in his favour. During a recent media interaction, Pirog praised Ishida and commented, “He’s a really tricky boxer, tall, really unorthodox,
throws a lot of punches, but not all using his maximum strength. It’s good that I’ll have an opponent like that. It’ll give me important and necessary experience, that I didn't have had before.”
The bout will be a toe-to-toe one since both men have their own prolific reputation and though, at the moment, Ishida has the odds against him yet he still resides at the 24th position in the world middleweight rankings, an aspect that might make a difference
if apropos strategy is used.
