Dmitry Tursunov, Grigor Dimitrov moves into 3rd round – Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2011
Dmitry Tursunov, Russian World No.45, moved in to the 3rd round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic 2011, an ATP World Tour 500 event, on Thursday, 4th July in Washington D.C, USA after doing away with Flavio
Cipolla in straight sets. It took the Russian one hour and seventeen minutes to secure a 6-1, 6-4 win over the lower ranked Italian.
Playing each other for the third time, the 28-year-old opened the serve in the first set. Double faulting only once, Tursunov actualized a startling 80 percent accuracy on his serve and managed 88 percent win on it.
Sporting a rock solid defence, Tursunov gave no breakpoint opportunity to his opponent. In addition to that he converted two breakpoints to his advantage to secure a 6-1win in the first set. The rigorous beating
was yet not enough for the Italian as the mighty Russian gave him the slap of the evening in the following set.
In spite of his age, the 28-year-old Russians’ stamina and resilience did not abate in the second set as he continued his outshined over the lower ranked Italian. An early break by the Russian triggered a series of back-to-back
breakpoint wins by the two ending up with Tursunov leading 3-2. He then extended his lead further on to 5-3. An exchange of game points later secured the right handed Russian a 6-4 win over the Italian.
Proving to be worthy of his spot, the Russian ousted the Italian with 3 lighting aces. Carrying out with 85 percent win on his 1st serves, he ensured 35 points on his service and 26 on his returning totalling 61 points
to his win.
Advancing to the next match, the world No.57, Grigor Dimitrov played his 2ndrounder against Michael Llodra that lasted only half an hour. Collapsing with an injured leg, the Frenchman, Llodra, withdrew from the fixture
only to lie back on his chair with his towel on his head cursing his luck.
The half hour match concluded 7 games. Saving 3 breakpoints, Grigor established a rock solid defence. The Bulgarian smashed 2 aces in the half hour mark. With 16 service points and 8 returners, the world No.57 sneaked away with
a win over retirement adjusting his place in the 3rd round.
Tursunov will go against the top seed Gael Monfils while Dimitrov plays Janko Tipsarevic in the 3rd round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.
