Dmytro Zalevskyy pockets Men’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Dmytro Zalevskyy of Ukraine pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke in S11 category on day four of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Sunday, September 2.
Zalevskyy spoiled the party of his opponents by snaring gold medal of the backstroke discipline. With his continuous efforts in the playoff, Zalevskyy managed to outperform his strongest challenger over the finishing blockade for gold medal.
He continued his breath-taking efforts from the start and paved his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.81 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.26 seconds ahead of Bozun Yang of China, who remained prominent for second fastest spot of the event and clocked a time of 1 minute and 08.07 seconds.
Yang was trailed by Viktor Smyrnov of Ukraine, who suffered a loss of only 0.15 seconds from his foregoing finisher and occupied bronze medal of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 08.22 seconds.
Smyrnov was chased by Junichi Kawai of Japan, who stayed 0.72 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and finished fourth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.94 seconds.
Similarly, fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Bradley Snyder of USA, who stayed 0.68 seconds slower from his former finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 09.62 seconds.
Snyder remained nearly two body lengths ahead of Israel Oliver of Spain, who completed his race in a time of 1 minute and 11.58 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Oleksandr Mashchenko of Ukraine, who remained almost one and a half body length apart and tapped the wall for seventh spot by producing a time of 1 minute and 12.94 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was obtained by Donovan Tildesley of Canada, who was 1.03 seconds slower and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 13.97 seconds.
Zalevskyy was overjoyed with his accomplishment in the 100m discipline and raked medal for his performance after the event.
