Dmytro Zavadsky defeats Przemyslaw Wacha to grab Men’s Singles title at White Nights 2012
Ukraine’s Dmytro Zavadsky proved his mettle and finally grabbed Men’s Singles title after defeating his higher ranked challenger Przemyslaw Wacha of Poland at the final showdown of White Nights International Challenge 2012 in Russia, on July 8, 2012.
The in-form Zavadsky, who was third seeded player in Men’s Singles category of the tournament, played impressive badminton with incredible variations in his shots and overpowered the top seeded Wacha in a spectacular three-set contest.
The lower ranked Zavadsky was a bit nervous in opening set and lost it but he found his way back into the match by taking the second set. He was in commanding position in the final game and registered a sensational victory over his Polish opponent.
In the meanwhile, Wacha showed his class in opening set but failed to maintain his upper hand over Zavadsky in the following games and lost the battle in rubber games in 55 minutes.
In the first game, top seeded Wacha played to his maximum potential and remained ahead of his Ukrainian opponent.
Until the one-minute break in opening set, Wacha was miles ahead on the board at 11-4.
After the break, Zavadsky tried to play attacking badminton but failed to destroy the defence of his higher ranked rival and lost the first game with a 16-21 score on the board.
In the second game, it was Zavadsky who became aggressive in all areas of court and played to his maximum potential. He was positive this time and took a superb lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, Zavadsky continued putting up superb show without showing any mercy to Wacha and managed to grab the set with a wonderful margin of 21-15.
In the decider, Zavadsky was in complete control in opening half and remained successful in taking a reasonable lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the interval, Zavadsky remained calm and focused as he did not commit unforced errors and eventually took the game with a decent 21-18 margin on the score board.
Zavadsky grabbed Men’s Singles title after beating Wacha in three sets with a sensational margin of 16-21, 21-15 and 21-18.
