Dmytro Zavadskyy is one step away from lifting the Austrian International Challenge 2011 title
Dmytro Zavadskyy of Ukraine has won the semi-final match of the Men’s Singles category in the Austrian International Challenge 2011 against Russian shuttler, Vladimir Ivanov, at Vienna, Austria.
The number five seed Dmytro emerged as winner after a hard three-set fight of 47 minutes. The Ukrainian player will be playing against the winner of the other semi-final, where Kenn Lim of Malaysia is competing against Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei.
The start of the opening set was quite thrilling as both shuttlers were close until 4-4, where the number five seeded player of Ukraine started to increase his speed and took a good lead. The Russian was trailing behind by 5-11 until the interval of the
opening set. After getting back into the court, Dmytro dominated the game and clinched five more consecutive points. Vladimir was unable to match the speed of his experienced opponent and lost the opening set by a margin of 8-21.
The second set was a closer encounter, as both players remained toe-to-toe until the one-minute interval, where the Ukrainian was leading the set by 11-10. After the interval, the Russian started to increase his speed by playing aggressively. His strong
pushes and down the line smashes put him in lead.
Dmytro lost the control of the rallies giving an opportunity to the opponent to win the set. Ivanov utilised the opportunity and scored all the remaining eleven points and levelled the match by grabbing the second set with a clear margin of 21-14.
The start of the third and final game of the semi-final battle was a thrilling fight between both players. The points remained quite close until 9-9, where Dmytro started gradually started to control the speed and dictate the rallies. Until the interval
of the final set, the Ukrainian was leading by 11-9.
He maintained the difference throughout the game and finished the set with a 21-17 margin. The final score of this three-set battle was 21-8, 14-21 and 21-17. The number five seed is just one step away from the title. However, he does not have much time
to rest, as the final match of the Austrian International Challenge 2011 will also be played in the evening today.
