  1. YES

  2. The internal addresses (those assigned by the router) will be different.  The external address (that assigned by the ISP) will be the same (since there is only 1).

  3. You'll need a router as well as a modem to have 2 computers online at the same time. The router will provide Network Address Translation, allowing a separate internal network and external network. You external IP will be assigned by your ISP and your internal IP addresses will be assigned by DHCP from the router.

  4. Assuming you have a router (linksys or netgear or something) then they have different IP address on your Local Area Network, but will have the Same one on the internet.  So if you post to a message board it should show the same public IP address.

  5. the ip is provided by your isp.. if  2 computers share the same internet, Yes they would have the same ip. but the single ip is recieved by the router, instead of the computer...and the router splits the ip into 2, one for each computer. if both computers use the internet simultaneously, the speed would be very slow

  6. Okay let's make this simple...

Just like the at post office, when a letter arrives, it is sorted out based on the recipient's address, then eventually delivered to the proper mailbox.

A router works just like the post office.

    Here's how...

The ISP gives the router a unique ip address.

Each computer's network card has a unique hardware or mac address.

The router looks at those unique hardware addresses and assigns each one a unique ip address on it's own network and stores that matching pair information in a table (called "ARP CACHE").

This allows the router to look at the mac+ip pair that made made the request and return the requested data back to the proper mac+ip pair.

    Hope that helps...

  7. No way!! You shud have different IP address for each computer connected to the same modem. Its similar to the IP addresses of the computers connected to a LAN network.
