Do bendini self-charging motors actually work? (eg. the ones described: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaIYRM1yrM4&feature=related, etc, etc).

I can't seem to find any simple webpages which explain how they work / if they can actually be sucessful... I would have assumed they aren't (or else why don't we use them to power things), but people seem to claim they work... does anyone have a simple definitive answer?

  1. Perpetual motion machines all (1) violate the most basic laws of physics and (2) are cynical frauds to fleece you of as much "investment" money as possible

  2. No, it's a scam.

You are right, people have been building perpetual motion machines for hundreds of years, and claiming they worked, but if even one did, they would be in use in place of gasoline and oil and coal. And someone would be a billionaire.

  3. It's neither a perpetual motion machine nor a free energy source.  It doesn't claim overunity.  It doesn't really do anything, it just spins.  But it does so very efficiently.  The extra winding doesn't recharge the battery.  It just provides rotational sensing for commutation without the need for mechanical brushes.  Since the permanent magnets are in the rotor, the rotor doesn't need to be powered at all.  The brass sleeve and ball bearings have very low friction.  The only practical use for this I can think of is a gyrocompass or a disk drive..

  4. "Simple, definitive answer."

    NO.
