I have a garden full of tomato, green peppers and hot peppers. When they are tall enough for me to distinguish that they arent weeds. I do a very through cleaning and then lay grass clipping around them and all over the intire garden. These keeps weeds from ever coming back. It helps hold in mositure and it is compost. Also, I highly recommend planting merigolds around your garden this keeps the bug factor very very low. They hate the smell, along with deer and most rodents. I like this method because my produce stays clean of pesticides ect.

you must keep at least 1 compost bin 2 if you can this leaves 1 to work while you fill  the second .you will need to hoe to keep weeds at bay and mulching can eventually be done with your compost .all garden waste can go in compost with kitchen live waste veg scraps tea bags fruit peel etc .
