Yes, India has palm trees and the people enjoy a lot, the products of the same.  The seeds (a fleshy part in the fruit) are available during summer.  Palm trees are noted for the toddy that is derived from them.  The root of the palm trees is another edible part.  And when the fruit is planted and then uprooted and cut after five months, the endoplasm (inside the nut) is another edible part.  I conclude saying that in India, palm tree is as good as coconut and neem tree (every part being put to use someway or the other).
