Do 4 yr olds usually pick up books and write the letters in them?

has your child done this at this age or have they done it earlier or something? my niece isn't in pre-k or kindergarten. And did they put the alphabet in order without knowing what they looked like before they saw this alphabet book? The pages have different letters on it and she picked it up and started writing them down and then she had it on another page and wrote down letters from another page that she hadn't viewed yet...........

You would really be surprised what young kids pay attention to. They will start picking out letters in stories without you noticing. Every child gets interested in letters at some point. This is the best time to start working with them. I would strongly encourage her parents to help her along. My daughter started writing o's and l's at 19 months, so four isn't to early to be interested. If she is worked with she can not only learn the alphabet, but to read. Best of luck!

Yes...this is the age they start to take an interest in letters and writing.  It's an exciting time :)

My son was reading at age 4 and he never went to pre-k. He just picked it up from me reading to him.

Ya a lot of kids do this, many even before the age of 4. its amazing what children pick up without us even realizing.
