  1. Yes, but if it is an obvious shot its not always necessary.  Ball in hand rules is sometimes refured to as semi slop or call your pocket.  Basicly this means you call your ball and the pocket its going in, and it does not matter how it gets there as long as you get a good hit (your suit first).  Good luck, and keep racken em up!

  2. Depends on the situation and the rules of environment you play in. I don't know about other leagues but I play in the American Poolplayers Association where you don't have to call any pocket except for the 8 ball and even for the 8 ball you don't have to say how it will go in,as long as it goes in the pocket you called.  I play non-league play differently. The house rules I usually play by are that you have to call every pocket AND how that ball will go,such as off another ball, without touching another ball, one rail bank, two rail bank, etc.

  3. Depends on where you are playing.  Some bars require you to call every shot whereas league play (APA/CPA) you only need to call the 8 ball.

  4. all depends.. sometimes you play a game that you call every shot and sometimes you don't.. ask your opponent before the game starts what he/she prefers.

  5. Different leagues and tournaments have different rules. BCA and World Standardized rules actually make concessions for call shot or no call shot games, so at the end of the day it's up to the players involved.

Keep in mind that if you decide to play call shot, that you must only designate the ball you intend to pocket and the pocket it is going in. You do NOT need to call kicks, banks, caroms or combinations.

  6. Pocket not the shot

  7. depends , but if you call then you know how good you are
