Do 8 year old girls like to play dress up?

My niece is 8 and lives 1500 miles away (i dont see her often). I am going to bring her a present and would love to get her some long gloves, a tiara, fancy earrings, bangles, big sunglasses etc. if she's not to old to enjoy that stuff. What do you think? Should i go dress up or buy her things that she may actually wear (her mom is super conservative). I thought it would be fun to go over the top.

I have an 8 year old girl and yes she likes to still play dress up. Just the other night, she had a friend over the other night and they stayed up all night playing dress up. The friend is 10. They had a blast. Good luck. I would go over the top too.

Well, not by themselves.  I have a 7 year old and she stopped the dress up thing by age 4.  If she has younger sisters, then OK because they all can share and play together.  Otherwise, 8 year olds are more into making up their face and lips (and washing it off), doing their nails and into clothes (to wear in public).  I think get her some super stylish clothes to wear back to school, along with nailpolish and kids lipgloss (Smackers) or kids makeup kit (like Hello Kitty or something).

That is a very hard call. Some girls love dress ups, and if as you say her mother is conservative, the child might really appreciate some dress ups.

It is a risk but I would say go with your gut. Just do it. good luck.
