Question:

Do 9mm Revolvers exist?

I don't think they do, but I don't know a lot about revolvers so I figured I'd ask. I know how a 9mm Luger bullet is shaped, like it would not stay in the cylinder. Just wondering if there is a revolver out there that shoots 9mm rounds.

  1. There were some mods that enable a revolver to utilize the 9mm ammo. It involves the use of a  "half moon" holder for 3 rounds of the ammunition. Slow and clumsy to reload, I don't think they were too successful.  The 9mm is without the rim needed by a revolver to prevent the round from sliding into the cylinder and causing a jam.

  2. Ruger produced both the  SP101 and their Single action Blackhawk revolvers in 9mm.  You could get a Blackhawk convertible which came with both a .357Mag and a 9mm cyl.  Both may have required moon clips which are really no big deal.    A skilled revolver shooter is very quick to reload utilizing half or full moon clips, even more so than so called speed loaders.

  3. Yes, this one is still in production:

    It's a single action.

  4. I almost bought an SP101 in 9mm about 15 years ago since I already had a few 9s but opted for the .357 so I know they do.  The clips to hold the rim looked like a real pain in the butt.

  5. yes

    Ruger made the SP101

S&W made one for awhile I think

    Taurus made the 905 series

these were all 5 shot models I believe - don't think any are in production now

they all used half-moon or full moon "clips" since the extractor wouldn't work without a rim

Ruger also made a "convertible" single action in .357 mag that had an extra cylider in 9mm
