I want to get my BSN and then I want to get a MSN so I can be a Nurse Practitioner . I think I would like to be a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Im 23 and I changed my major from hospitality (I didnt finish my degree) to nursing. So Im looking at some schools and wondering if all schools have waiting list? I do have some general electives, but I think I need some more math and science classes.

  1. yes all nursing programs have more than a year's worth of waitlist, this is why i was so stressed when i applied.  but thru God's Grace i got into the program in only two months now you know that was a true blessing!  don't worry when you apply you will eventually get in even if it take a year.

  2. Majority of schools have waiting lists for the nursing programs.  It isn't just within the BSN programs, ASN programs as well have such a demand that there isn't staff to teach the number of applicants.  I meet with students daily looking to get into the program.  Here is my advice to them;

    Keep up the grades!!  Your transcript speaks for you.

    Math and science are most important.  Getting an A in English lit and a C in A and P isnt going to cut it.

    Have a creative essay.  Don't say "I want to help people".  They hear that a million times.

    While waiting to get in, keep taking classes.  In the mean time you might get another degree.  Get a degree in something that may relate to Nursing.  Psych, Gereontology,  or Thanatology are good choices.

    If they look at previous experience in the med field, get your CNA license.

    Look into all options.  LPN and ASN programs can get you into a 4 year bridge program for your BSN.

    And lastly, never give up.  If it is something you want, you will prevail.

    Good luck!!
