Question:

Do ALL shoes come off at airport security?

I mean, I can understand boots and sneakers and such... But what about cheap flip-flops that are no more than a piece of rubber for a sole and an even smaller rubber thong? Can I keep those on, since they obviously aren't hiding anything, or do they need to come off, too?

Or would I just be better to wear a pair of slip-on shoes that are easy to deal with and won't possibly be unseasonable where I'm going? (I don't foresee a problem with flip-flops in Indiana just after Labor Day, but you never know...)

Thanks for the help!

  1. yes, even sandals

  2. depends on the airport that you are going though, the sacramento airport didnt make me take my filp flops off but when i got to san jose they did so just take a nother pair of shoes or socks with you just in case.

  3. Yes all shoes come off so make sure you wear slip off shoes.

  4. Yes.... ALL shoes.  You can still have socks on, but shoes are off.  Best not to wear rubber flip flops on a plane though.  What if the plane went down.... think of what happens to rubber when it gets hot.  I always wear slip on shoes that don't require tying.

  5. As someone has said above, it is best to wear closed in shoes just in case there was an emergency on the aircraft.

Although that is not the best way to be thinking about things, also think about smaller inncidents that could happen if you didnt wear shoes like some cutlery or something hevey falling on you....

my best advice is to NOT wear BRAND NEW shoes! they draw more attention to yourself.

Wear older shoes, get to the airport nice and early and just be paitent and take those extra few minutes so they can do their job so you and everyone else on your flight can have a safe flight!

And although this may be a very extreme case, I have herd of people who have been denied boarding of an aircraft because they are lacking proper footwear....but they must have been VERY extreme cases.

  6. Yep! So I suggest you wear yourself some socks!

  7. I travel moderately, and i've always had to remove my footwear regardless of what im wearing, i think its to make sure your not hiding anything in your foot wear, i know that the x-ray machine draw up a picture of what its scanning by different density's of the materials. i know it sounds stupid but someone could make a knife out of plastic you know =\

so i would wear what ever is most comfortable for you

  8. YES.

    even flip flops, sandles. everything.

But not every airport requires you to take off your shoe. Mainly just US airports. My local international airport doesn't require this
