I just wondered if AP summer work is dictated by the school or if it's just one universal assignment every AP student has to do.

  1. Its different. The classes are taught differently too. However, they are much more similar than a standard class would be.

  2. It's completely different not just from school to school, but even between different teachers that might teach the same AP class at one school. There is no requirement for AP summer assignments by Collegeboard (they administer the exam) but many teachers assign them just to scare away students that can't handle the workload.

  3. The assignments in AP classes are not dictated, the teachers generally get to choose them, although the curriculum is regulated and the tests, of course, are all the same. Some schools do tell their teachers what assignments they want the students doing, but usually that is up to the teachers discretion. If there are multiple teachers teaching the same AP class, they often work together and will assign the same summer homework, but yes, what is assigned changes with each school.
