  1. At this moment in time I think there are far more pressing issues in that country that whether they play international cricket or not !!1  and this is likely to be the case for many years while they are in an area where terrorists roam

  2. I am sure it is the aspiration of every ICC member to one day be a Test nation. I am sure the wild Afghans would make a wonderful addition to the top table. They are a long way off Test status though at present. I think the constant warfare in their country will curtail their efforts for many a year to come.

  3. i was reading article about this a bit back they played in the u17's world cup and i think they got to the final all with very very poor facilities but it is by all accounts really popular there. Some play across the boarder in the pakistani leagues. Who knows in ten years they could be the new Sri Lanka.

  4. I heard about their cricket team a while ago when they were on tour to Pakistan for some games with regional teams to get experience & they were very enthusiastic & the players mentioned about the great interest in the game the people back there has. So they certainly has something which puts them in contention for the teams with a good future in the sport (not NEAR future though)!

  5. Why not?

Who's to say that one day, Kenya, Holland or Denmark wouldn't either?

  6. no

  7. YES! The game is wildly popular over there. The sport's ministry made cricket the official no. 1 game over there a few years back, and it seems that the entire nation is backing the team to hoist their flag at the 2011 WC! The passion for the sport is fantastic. Of course, 2011 seems VERY unlikely... as does Test Status within the decade. The terrible war over there is ensuring that people have slightly more important things to take care of, but if Afghanistan can pull itself out of war... do not be surprised to see Afghans become a T20, or maybe even an ODI team, within ten years.

  8. I wish that day will come very soon.

  9. There will never be any more test playing nations than are already playing. The popularity of 20/20 and ODI's mean it is very easy to set up nations playing the short format. The long game needs a vast internal structure where local teams play for 3/4 days to bring on test players.Whereas,a player, say from afghan, can be an amateur and play 20/20 until he show exceptional flair and turns pro just prior to gaining international experience. To play the long game, you must sacrifice everything to become professional, from the very start, to find out if your good enough to play test cricket. The countries don't have that level of money,so will go for pros for the short format,as you need less planning, facilities and cash.l only love test cricket

  10. I am sure with the right coaching and support they can become a Test nation pretty soon. They have excellent genetics to be fast bowlers, just like the Pakistanis across the border.

  11. I dont think the Aussies will be worrying for a while, lol
