Do two African dwarf frogs need a heater i their tank or do they like room temp. water? what is cycling a tank? In this 1and a half gallon tank, i have a goldfish, a golden mystery snail, and i want to add one or two African dwarf frogs. I also heard of these mini- freshwater crabs and was thinking about adding those too but would i have enough space for them and what do they need?

  1. A goldfish needs a minimum of a 20 gallon tank with great filtration.  You need to get it into a bigger tank immediately.  Keeping them in small spaces causes stunting and organ failure.  A mature goldfish can be up to 12" long.

Dwarf frogs need tropical temperatures so unless your room maintains a constant 80F then you need a heater but a tank that small is very hard to heat properly.

There really isn't any way to cycle a tank that small.  You just have to treat it as a bowl and do a total clean out every 3 days.

  2. Your tank IS too small for goldfish  u are a cruel person shame on u. Try living in a coffin u might live 5 years

  3. First of all your tank is WAY too small. Goldfish need at least 20 gallons to themselves, so DON'T add anything else to the tank and DO buy a bigger tank.

  4. WHOA! Stop right there! Your tank is overstocked and there is no good temp to keep it at! Goldfish are cold water fish + they need 20+ gallon for 1 fish! If you take the goldfish out of the picture, 2 African dwarf frogs and a betta would do good...or 2 male guppies.

Also, there are no mini freshwater crabs! If you hear fiddler crabs are freshwater. That is not true. They are brackish water crabs. There are some crawdads and other small creatures that stay reasonably sized, but still need 10 gallons or more.

  5. You need a bigger tank. A one and a half gallon is big enough for like  maybe one frog, goldfish get up to 6 inches. Generally the rule is one inch of fish for every gallon of water. Even if you had a bigger tank, the crabs would kill the frog, get a 10 gallon and you can have the goldfish and like three frogs.
