traveling around Britain on holiday i have come across quite a few American cousins that go giddy at the mere sight of a Royal residence. do the American public feel that they have given up their history for their independance? and, would Americans like to have the/a Queen/Monarch as their figurehead, like Canada?

  1. I think it may be that Americans are fascinated by "the rich and famous". You would probably see the same behaviour in Hollywood when people take those tour buses that go by celebrities homes.

  2. No we don't. Ask that question is the wrong place and you night get your *** kicked. Most of us a fascinated by them (from what I can tell), but just as many or more love J.K. Rowing.

We are a country of the people for the people. And while I would probably go giddy, it is not something that I would want. Cool to visit, but I don't want to live there.

Also the founding principle's of this country are based for of freedom for one and all (well not at first, a few adjustments have been made over the years), freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Those principle's are not necessarily available in other countries. Down to the fact in some European countries the goverment can change your name if they don't like it. So not cool.

  3. I think you'll find the answer is a resounding NO!  We're an independent, mutable lot and we LIKE to change up our leaders every now and again!  What we like even more is a good human drama- we LIKE to put people on pedestals, knock them down, and watch them climb back up again.  Our heroes are those who've been to h**l and back and come out swinging- like Princess Di.  No, we don't miss the monarchy- but we do enjoy watching it from afar.

  4. Yes.  I think that it is wonderful & the Queen is a lovely lady.

  5. I think as Americans we are so enthralled with the royal family because it is something different to us.  I have never lived with such a Monarchy so I do not miss such.

I am as curious about the royal family and have found inspiration is some members of royalty just as I have is some celebrities, or others that I admire greatly regardless of their status in the world.  Prince William was born just a few days before my youngest son so it is interesting to hear what is going on in his life although I do not actively seek out information.

I am not particularly interested in living under a Monarchy, no.   Nor am I interested in living in Hollywood or wherever other people that inspire me by their good works or fame live.  I can draw inspiration or be enthralled without needed to be a part of their world.

Princess Diana inspired me to be a more outgoing and giving person to see past a persons inflictions.  Oprah inspires me to reach beyond myself to help others.

Brittany inspires me to talk more with my grandchildren about the dangers of having children when you are not mature enough to raise them.  Lindsey inspires me to talk to my grandchildren about the dangers of doing drugs and drinking.   Yet, I certainly do not wish to be a part of their sad misconception of life.

  6. i dont worship people because of their bloodline, they aint no better than anyone else...........................

  7. Maybe they do. Americans are so obsessed with celebrities, which are sort of like royalty to them.

  8. I wasn't raised that way & I think the people should round them up and all the so called royalty or royal families  and eliminate them. We don't need figureheads or rulers or politicizations.

Independence from what, we in the USA depend on our government for everything. Jobs, student loans, protection, welfare, the people just don't realize how dependent we are of our government, so what is the difference

  9. The U.S. cannot miss what we never had, and we fought two wars with England so we would NOT have the monarchy.

I do think Americans are fascinated with it, as it is so exotic compared to our republican form of government.  I would not think that we would want the Queen as head-of-state though.

We can enjoy and appreciate British tradition, but monarchy rubs most Americans the wrong way.  It won't play here.

  10. Well of course they would deny it.Why admit to having made a mistake when you can pretend to be proud and happy with the likes of the cretin George Dubbya Bush.To the person who said they would fight to retain their freedom. Are you saying that Canada is not free?or Australia,New Zealand or the other countries that retain the Queen as their head of state?Over the last one hundred years you haven't had much luck fighting wars, unless you count that resounding victory over Grenada, yes those few hundred inhabitants will think twice before defending themselves against you again.

Edit. Why do americans keep on about freedom of speech as though they are the only country to have it,how ludicrous, how ignorant.I have freedom of speech,my father had freedom of speech as did my grandfather, going back hundreds of years. You are not unique and the same holds true with freedom of religion. We have more freedoms than you do.If I want to travel to Cuba or North Korea there is nothing that my government can do to stop me.

  11. No, we don't want royalty.

Like all human beings, it's exciting to see famous/royal people-you'd get giddy if I drove you by Angelina Jolie's house.

We have movie stars, royalty is even more exciting because of the history, castles, servants, curtsies, and......it's royalty!!! But, no, we don't want our own.

If you got excited to see the pope, would you want him to move to your city?

  12. No I dont think so its interesting and all but we started our country trying to get away from all that... h**l we dont even like having a president half the time! lol

  13. how can we miss what we never had? h**l no and we'll fight again if you'd like in order to keep our freedom.

  14. Absolutely not.  While we can admire the palaces, and watch royalty (much as we watch our own celebrities) we certainly neither want nor need royalty.

As a nation of immigrants from all over the world, we don't have a common history.  What we do have is a common future and that is our focus and our dream.  To the majority of us there is nothing more important than our independence, both as a country and as individuals, so we can achieve our dreams.

  15. I dont think that they do I for 1 wish that we didn't have our monarchy our taxes would be a lot less cheaper thats for sure I mean what do they actually do?

  16. quite honestly, Im glad that we fought and won wars so that we dont have a monarchy. But most of my family comes from england and it is nice to keep in touch with my history. that is why i would go to england to visit. As far as the current royal family, the news and press kind of talk about them like they would talk about britney spears or any other celebrity. It is not like I have  a fascination with them  they just get mentioned right between the traffic report and weather predictions. (which is sad sometimes because they are probably decent people who dont deserve to be on the same wavelength as britney spears right now) I would imagine young girls would want to meet a real live prince just like they hear about in fairy tales. That is my only guess about why people would be obesessed with Princes William and Harry at least.  Regardless of what we do as a country, England will always be a part of our (america's ) history. I do not believe I have to choose one or the other (independance or history) I know that I am always welcome in England to visit my family there and i can always crack a history book to learn how england has infuenced us- positive or negative. On the other hand, not everyone here comes from england so I dont think the queen would represent us all.

  17. No, I would not wish the Monarchy back again in America.  We have enough problems with what we've got.  However, my ancestors came from the UK so reading about British History is interesting for me.

  18. No, we read about "King George" almost everyday in the newspapers.
