Do Angus Young have a very low action on his guitar?

I'm just wondering because he managed to play note just by striking them with his fretting hand (left hand). If he doesn't how does he get such clear notes?

  1. i dont think so, it can mess with your neck really bad if you dont know what you're doing

he mostly uses only one hand on the board so he uses the hammer and pull technique

you strum and then you hammer on the next notes you want, and then you pull them off by pulling your finger down to keep the note on ringing(usually done fast)

  2. You can strike a note with your fretting hand and hear the note you hit. The harder you hit (without injuring yourself...) you will hear a clearer notes.

With a high gain the difference between strumming the note and hitting it with your fretting hand may become hard to tell. Also, the higher the gain, the less force you have to apply to get the note to sound right.

  3. it doesnt really matter if your action is low or not.

what Angus does is actually called finger tapping (he does this in "thunderstruck".  this technique is practically the action of doing a hammer-on then in the same action a pull-off. if you can do this quick enough you get clear notes and it sounds and looks awesome

  4. Low action can be pretty dangerous. More likely, he's got some very loud pickups. Gibson has some very high-output humbucking pickups that will pick up every single little nuance you do on the neck. There's a bunch of guitarists out there who don't ever have to use a pick due to the high output of their guitar pickups.
