Do Anti-marijuana laws need relaxation ?

The time is long overdue... We continue to criminalize people, for simply smoking a plant, a choice which they made of their own free will, and harms no one but themselves. (and even that 'harm' is debatable).

But the big picture includes the injustices, hypocritical laws, and other casualties of the drug war... And the fact that Prohibition causes more problems, than the drug itself does!

Alcohol, a drug which is can be horribly addictive, promotes risk taking, can be extremely intoxicating, and has numerous negative health problems, is perfectly legal.

Yet the safer alternative, Marijuana, is criminalized, and it's users jailed... All reasoning for which, seems like less of a reason, when compared to alcohol. How can the law be so hypocritical? Such laws are not just, and not right... Certainly not in a country, that is supposedly "Free".

It's time we legalized it, to reduce the harms, to reduce the crime and violence created by prohibition... And to give the safer choice, back to the people.

You forgot to mention all the ecologoical, and economic benefits the end of this ridiculous policy will bring.  Hemp production is also banned as part of the war on this "drug".  The father of our country grew hemp because it was a very valuble crop, it could be even more so today.

The apparent hypocrisy is due to the jurisdiction of the two substances Marijuana and alcohol  Marijuana was placed under the FDA as a drug. Alcohol was placed under the Treasury Dept. for revenue purposes. FDA has said that if they were given jurisdiction over alcohol, they would make it a prescription drug. To legalize marijuana, it needs to be transferred to the Treasury Dept. for revenue purposes.

Never relax anti-marijuana laws! These drugs are extremely unhealthy and certainly mess up the body. Also, they impair one's ability to operate a vehicle. And consequently, these evil drugs destroy families and societies! Now, who needs these drugs?

No. they need to be strengthened. Its a harmful drug that can lead you to psychosis and delusions.

Society's better off without it. Smoke a few cigarettes and drink a few beers. It's way healthier.
