Is it fair that army personnel are given free education after their army days are over, or should tuition fees be abolished for ALL students in the UK?

  1. Yes and Yes

I come from a generation to whom education was a right, not a privilege. I was able to study for a degree on a full grant. Any debt I ended up with was down to my own silly overspending, not tuition fees.

I am by no means saying Army personnel do not deserve free places, I'm just saying so do everyone else with the motivation and intelligence!

  2. Why not reward loyal citizens for service? On the otherhand why expect anything to be given to you? Do you truly believe that everybody has earned the right to go to a university? I'm not one for handouts either giving or receiving, it's a matter of pride. Giving people things they didn't earn creates a false sense of entitlement and in my opinion weakens a person's character. And I do believe that it is fair to reward people who have gone through things that few others have gone through in serving a country.

  3. Free education for the armed forces?

    Sure.

    Why not?

Letting them continue where they get off.

While out there in the twilight zone.

    For the good of mankind.

In the creation of peace on earth goodwill to men in time.

In making this world a better place to live.

    After completion of their services.

So they can continue to learn the knowledge and skill for their own survival and advancement in time.

Without them continuing where they get off.

How do we expect them to survive in the real world in different time zone?

    While those back home.

    Did not miss out anything.

    What do you think?

  4. Yes and no.

  5. At least forces personnel have contributed to the country !!!!!

Other people who go to a university have contributed nothing.

It is about time this government helped service people, they have been very badly treated by this government !

  6. Well they were willing to put their life on the line for the country, so I think they should be rewarded like that.

How many other students would be willing to make a sacrifice like that

  7. No! They should pay up like the rest of the students.

  8. Student Fees should be abolished for everyone, BUT only on the grounds that they get A-C in worthwhile A-Levels and will not be taking Mickey Mouse degrees. I don't see why the tax payer should fund degrees like Media Studies for students who aren't intelligent enough to go to Uni. If people want to "play" at education then they should have to pay for it themselves.

  9. A free university education could easily be done over the internet. The "old fashioned" type of university where students spent time lazing about and drinking while blowing away fortunes should be wound up.

Video arcades could easily be converted into exam centres for the virtual syllabus. Twelve levels to get through to history 434, another, ten levels of basic law etc etc.

Could easily be done. The old type of degrees will no longer be useful unless they were titled something like, "Call centre basics" etc etc

In other words university degrees should prepare people to make money in the real world. Not some useless MBA from some unknown Uni.

The people that serve in the military should have priority

    for obvious reasons.

  10. Lets hear it for the Army personnel only. They have done a service for their country.

Others have yet to prove it.

  11. I think that it is not just fair, but a step in the right direction.  A very low percentage of people have the fortitude to put on the uniform.  These days that could be one h**l of a price to pay.  The soldiers are doing a great service for their country, the least we can do is give them an education upon completion of their hitch.

  12. university education should be free for everyone.
