  1. omg yes! i have 2 and they shed like i have never seen! i have to vacuum twice a day! they also bark all the time... in the morning. but i love them! they're my babies!

australian shepherds right? not the austrailian people...

...what am i wrong about? just wondering... thumbs down... lol.

  2. All dogs shed daily, but Australian Shepherds in particular are a double coated breed and so their shedding tends to be more noticeable than a short coated dog or dogs like Poodles who have hair instead of fur.

If the dog is l*****g itself all the time, there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Either the dog is experiencing discomfort at the site of the l*****g or is extremely bored and needs to be given a job and more exercise.

Australian Shepherds were bred to be farm watchdogs as well as herding dogs, so yes, they do tend to alert to sounds and bark as a warning. If shedding and barking are issues, then this may not be the right breed for you.

  3. I own an aussie and I have to say the shedding is insane! I brush him everyday and feed him an all natural super premium dog food and it's still everywhere. He sheds worse than my rough collie. But that comes with the territory when you get a double coated bred

Aussies are  natural guardians so they do bark when they sense somethings up. When I moved into my new house with floor to ceiling windows in most rooms my pup barked a lot. Within a month I was able to  teach him the 'quiet' command. Coupled with some more socializing. He now only barks occasionally and calms down on my commandMy aussie hardly ever grooms himself. Over grooming can be a sign of a deeper problem.Especially when coupled with constant barking. Aussies are a medium-high energy dog and very intelligent. If they don't get enough  stimuli they can show neurotic tendencies. With a bit more exercise, socialization, and training it's all fixable. If you are not able to provide it then you may need to find some help or a home that can provide it.Best of Luck

  4. sounds like your aussie is a little neurotic. does he get enough exercise? try getting a furminator to cut down on the shedding. works wonders i promise. the grooming might be a problem i would talk to a dog trainer or behavioralist about whats going on they wont charge you for advice.
