  1. You don't need a visa to enter USA (Americans need a visa to enter Australia). Just buy an airfare and go. You'll need to show your return ticket at the immigration prior entering US. Might need your fingerprint done at the spot that takes 20-30 minutes.

Australians may apply for a 5 years-visa if they want to stay in US longer, for reason of vacation, medical or visiting family.

US welcome Australian to work there (because Australians won't become illegal immigrants). There are about 65,000 work visa issued per year by US for people all around the world, including Australia. US gives Australians additional 6000 work visas per years. Only 900 were issued each year (because very few Australians think of moving to US to find a job, only those that are sent to US by Australian companies).

It is much easier to find a job in US. It's much easier to be fired as well. But the opportunity is unlimited. You can change career. You don't have to have exactly the same qualification/experience.

Cost of living is much higher in most major cities in US. Life is not so comfort but a lot more exciting. You don't get bored in US, you get shocked. You'll become a lot more smarter, but still not smart/tough enough. You'll find life is more about work, food, s*x, renovations, play. There is possibility to be a leader. You might start doing something no one has done and become a millionaire. You'll engage in things you never thought you could achieve. Sky is not the limit, universe is.

The most surprising thing is, in US, Asians are role models of the country, not trash.

And you do need to be rich in order not to live a shameful life. For that you may need a PhD Degree (not like Australia, PhD Degree is a one way ticket to teaching position). Financial professionals can earn anywhere from 100,000 to 1 million dollars per year in US, compare with $60,000-90,000 in Australia (Plumbers earn $40,000 in Aus).

  2. i found this info on the US visa website...it would appear that australia is a member of the visa waiver program, but....as with all immigration/visa type issues, things are never very clear, and things change frequently.  i highly recommend that you check directly with the US govt site, or at least call the airline you are traveling on and ask what they require.  the airlines stay up to date with all this info, since they are fined if you arrive in a foreign country without the proper documentation.  enjoy your travels!!

Overview – what is the Visa Waiver Program? The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries to travel to the United States for tourism or business for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. The program was established in 1986 with the objective of eliminating unnecessary barriers to travel, stimulating the tourism industry, and permitting the Department of State to focus consular resources in other areas. VWP eligible travelers may apply for a visa, if they prefer to do so. Not all countries participate in the VWP, and not all travelers from VWP countries are eligible to use the program. VWP travelers are screened prior to admission into the United States, and they are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s US-VISIT   program.

Which countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)?

Currently, 27 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program, as shown below:

Visa Waiver Program - Participating Countries.

    Andorra Iceland Norway

    Australia Ireland Portugal

    Austria Italy San Marino

    Belgium Japan Singapore

    Brunei Liechtenstein Slovenia

    Denmark Luxembourg Spain

    Finland Monaco Sweden

    France the Netherlands Switzerland

    Germany New Zealand United Kingdom

  3. Pretty sure you have  to have a visa to enter any country, and state the reasons why you are going their, like a working holiday or just visiting friends, if you don't  you can be denied entry also if you don't have enough money etc., to cover your trip, also make sure if you use medication of any description, make sure you have a copy of the prescription with you too and to be extra safe cryvac your luggage before it leaves the first departure point, so nobody can tamper with your luggage, hope this helps you, goodluck! :)

  4. Australian citizens can still travel to the US under the Visa Waiver Program.  This does not guarantee admission to the US.  You will need to show sufficient funds for your stay and a return ticket.
