Do Australians care not much about depression in corporations?

I am working for a US based company in Japan. I had believed that the US company understands my mental illness (Bipolar Disorder) well since Americans love anti-depressant and counceling. However, my boss and boss's boss in Australia do not seem to understand the matter. The boss (Australian) gave me just 2 weeks of forced rest and felt complacent about his action saying as if all of illness went gone. The boss's boss (British living in Australia) is the same. Anyone who experienced depression or other mental health issues would understand easily that such illnesses cannot be cured just in 2 weeks. Indeed, I have battled with the illness for 4 years.

Questions are:

* Do Australians care little about depression in businesses?

* Do English care little about depression in businesses?

* High awareness about depression is seen only in the US?

* Do you believe it works if I point out that mental health in businesses is hot topics in Japan and several hundreds of patients are helped by Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance system every year ?

  1. My suggestion is trying to get as much as information as you could before making any decision, here is a good resourece.http://heath-insurance.tips-free.info/he...

  2. My dad had bipolar disorder. He worked for a plastic testing company in Darwin [we're in Melbourne, now]. He had a breakdown and his company ignored it, and as a result of his suicide, I, as his only remaining child, receive a couple of dollars every month in exchange for the life of my father.

It's blood money to me, so it's going to go to one of the few morally uncorrupted charities still in existence.

I don't know about England, the US or Japan's corporate attitudes to such an illness, but I hope this helped a little.
