Do Ayatollahs also whip themselves on muharram?

I see little children doing this, so I assume Ayatollahs lead by example.

its not called whipping.....its called mourning for the Grandson of Prophet (saww) which some people like u have forgotten unfortunately

Ayatollah means Allah's Ayat or Nishani. An Ayat is something that Allah has said by Himself, therefore whatever Ayatollahs say are Allah's words/messages. If you wanna know how i can get in that detail as well

Whips, Swords, Dagger, Blades, etc

Even babies do it.

Brave hearts,   is it a modern word to describe when someone is bold

no. they do condemn it and try to stop people from doing it. visit their websites and see for yourself.

just because people who do it convince their children to do it, it does not mean it is allowed by the scholars.

by the way, what about what the taliban (sunnis) who teach their children to be suicide bombers??

FTL: with all due respect, that may be your opinion, but i believe the quran does state that mutilating your body and putting yourself in harms way is in fact haram (numerous times). i have been to these muharram occasions before when people hit themselves and there are *always* people who faint or bleed their bodies into shock. that doesnt sound islamic to me.

i believe i read somewhere that Ayatollah Komeini isued a fatwa against it. Also, the marji3 i follow, Sayyid Fadhlullah, has done the same. From what I have heard the vast majority of scholars condemn it.

moreover, doesnt surah albaqara state "...make not your own hands contribute to your destruction..."

personally, i never saw lacerating ones head as a form of love or lamentation. i cry when i mourn.

inshallah i will find you all the fatwas online when i get a chance to as i have seen plenty of them.

Ayatollahs as in shias?

Not all shias whip themselves, some believe its wrong and some unfortunately don't.

Come on guys this is really not what Islam teaches us.
