Question:

Do Bartenders Need To Be Funny?

I am training to become a bartender but Im worried that I might not have the suitable personality to become one...somebody once told me that I have to be funny and humorous in order to become a successful bartender. And I am anything but that. People tell me that I look like a sarcastic serious kind of person and my sense of humor is not so good. But otherwise, Im a nice person to chat with and Im a very good listener...

So my question is...is it necessary for a bartender to have a funny personality in order to become successful???

  1. No but it would help if you want more sales.

    best of luck!

  2. Funny? Not really. U just need to be very friendly basically but humour helps in this.. But if u look sarcastic..yes! Thats gotta change! Try smiling alot and maybe figure out how to use ur knack of listening to ppl to ur advantage..

  3. i'm a bartender. what that person was talking about was building repore (sp.) with your guest and the best way to do that for me is with humor, but if you can find another way to relate to most of your guests then you should be fine.

  4. It's a good asset-- bartenders are often social people, because they can be in a situation where they have to interact with more than one person. Being funny keeps patrons entertained, and keeps them coming back!

  5. i have worked my whole life with bartenders not all are funny butttt you must be able to smile and remember peoples drinks (regulars ) and you must be able to listen to people and actually look like you care. sarcasm is good not bad you will find alot will enjoy but know who you are talking to before using sarcasm, good luck

  6. u need to be able to read people and fit to their personality
