  1. yes

  2. Yes they do.  And several will upscale them.

  3. Pretty much.

This isn't guaranteed... the Blu-Ray specification doesn't require a BD player to play DVD or CD. And some early ones did not. They don't also have to play BD-R or BD-RE (recordables).

But most companies are smart enough to support DVD and CD. Sony typically supports SACD (Super Audio CD), their next-gen audio format, and it's of course possible to support DVD-Audio as well.

My PS3 supports DVD, CD (in fact, it'll rip CD to it's hard drive if you ask), BD, BD-R, BD-RE, SACD, as well as game discs. I haven't found it able to support DTS-CD yet, but maybe with some fiddling (DTS-CD was kind of the first better-than-CD audio format out).

You're well advised to double-check the capabilities of any player you buy, before you buy it. You can even bring a CD or whatever else is important with you to the store and test it out.

  4. dont be fooled , as it entirely depend on you configuration, normally its not . as there are two groups  and both  have adopted  their technology these are High Definition  DVD Player and BLU RAY . the companies supporting these are manufacturing the DVD which support their technology.

but if you are looking for a DVD player which can play a normal dvd  then look for the iconic dvd player.

  5. Currently every blu-ray player(including the PS3) on the market will act as an upconvert DVD player.

Some of the first players that were released did not have that functionality, so if you are buying one used you should check the owner's manual or look it up online.

  6. Yes, it plays DVD, CD, SACD.
