We are looking to buy a DVD from Britain because it's not even out in theaters in America yet, but will it play in an American DVD player?

  1. only if the DVD is region code free, which most are not...

you would likely not be able to view any imported DVDs in a player built for the US...

If you want to view it on your computers DVD player, there are ways around the region coding, or so I have read.. but I do not have access to DVDs from another region to have tested any of the work arounds...

  2. No. A DVD has specific region codes and a specific format. The player needs to be able to handle both. American players are set for region 1 and NTSC format. Brittish DVDs are region 2 and PAL format. You'll need a dual format region free player in the US if you want to be able to play both. Most players can be set to region free mode if you google the player and look for a hack, but most cannot do dual format.

  3. No, it will not play. It's got a different region code.

I'm not sure if they still do this or not but it MAY be in PAL format and it's not compatible with United States NTSC televisions.

  4. no unless they have multiple country codes

  5. DVD's and CD's, yes.

My mother is from England. Last time my mother was in England, she purchased some CD's over there and they worked without any problem.

  6. no, these countries are in different zones
