  1. Very annoyed and embrassed.  hopefully the locals realise that we are not all like that and that we also think that Brits Abroad Plc are prats!

  2. More embarrassed than annoyed.

I lived in Spain some years ago and used to mix with other English people, but these were people who already knew local Spanish people and I spent many happy nights enjoying the hospitality in Spanish homes.

I did speak a pretty awful version of Spanish, but the local people loudly congratulated me every time I mangled a sentence of their wonderful language.

  3. I should hope that such people as want to experience the cultures from other countries would go and search out places that AREN'T already "colonized" by Brits who fit your description.  It's one reason I don't have any interest in going to the Costa del Sol.  It's not that I don't have any interest in Britons, but rather that I prefer to travel in, say Spain, to be among Spanish folks, and culture, and other people who appreciate that...so I prefer to be around Britons (and people of other nationalities, as well,) who share that interest...

  4. Brits Abroad plc I like that its a really good description.

Yes I live in Spain for few years and I tried not very successfully to learn Spanish, most of the little England Brits in Spain irritate the h**l out of me.

I have a relation who has retired to Spain and he is quite open and proud of the fact that he isn't ever going to learn Spanish he thinks the Spanish should be able to speak English, the arrogance.

  5. I am not British but English.

Not in France, Italy or Switzerland

  6. i have family in spain, and they have learned spanish, but you have to remember, every country has a language but the local lingo is the hardest to learn, and varies in each district of every country ex cocney brummie catalan gaelic
