Do Budgies Bite Their Cage When They Want To Come Out?

We had one male budgie for a month and half and he comes out for a couple of hours. So we bought another male for company and another one a couple of days later , the grey budgie keeps biting all over the cage , we let him out and he is reluctant to go back in , he calms down for an hour and then starts biting the cage again , is it just wants to get out or is it something else.

  1. Birds will bite the bars of their cages for several reasons.  The most obvious is an attempt to "break out," but they will also bite at the bars out of frustration, anxiety, or even compulsive behavior from having too little mental stimulation.  Other reasons include a desire to chew, an overgrown bill or because they like the taste or feel of the cool metal.

From your description, I suspect the problem is that he is not happy in the cage and is trying to get out.   It might be that the abrupt change in living conditions has caused him some anxiety, e.g., he doesn't like his roommates or the cage is too small for all 3 birds.  It could also be that he likes his freedom more than the other two birds.

Letting him out more often may or may not help the problem.  In some cases, it might make it worse.  Try to provide more mental stimulation inside the cage with toys, things to chew on, mirrors, millet seed and cuttle bone.  If the cage is small, get a larger cage.  In the worst case scenario, you might want to try separating the one bird from the others to see if his behavior is related to being with the other birds or not.
