Do Cab drivers get upset if you only go 4 blocks?

My best friend only lives about 4 blocks from me, and I love hanging out over there. but everyone drinks so I don't want them driving me home. I am not really fond of the neighborhood, so I don't like to walk since it's usually after midnight when I'm going home. I want to call a Taxi, but but am afraid they'll get mad if I am only going 4 blocks. I know it's a lot safer, but I don't want to make anyone mad. Do Cab drivers get upset if you only go 4 blocks?! Have U ever taken a cab that short of distance?

This is stopping me from hanging out over there and I don't like it :(

In NYC taxi are hailed right off the street.  So going 4 blocks is no big deal.

But most taxi companies have minimum charge weather you go 1 block or 1 miles.  So I don't think they care that much.  The only way to know is to call them ask if they have minimum charge.  If they do, then don't worry.  

It is more money for less trip - even though they rather make more money on longer trip.

No, they shouldn't get mad since it is their job.  Just tip them a buck or 2 if you are really that concerned.

With that in mind, give them a great tip :)  I believe they have to share their meter money with the cab company, but tips they keep :)

The drive for them to get to you,and then from you to a more convenient place needs to be taken into consideration. If you live in a city, then it isn't a problem because they can probably pick someone up nearby. However, if you are not centrally located, your 4 block trip can take up over half an hour or more of their time. Plus the extra gas. The fact that you live in a bad neighborhood makes it less safe for them also.

How do your other friends get home from there? Share a cab, and it makes it much more worth while for the driver. Or walk with others.

Aside from the driver's feelings, by calling a taxi to pick you up fro 4 blocks, you are probably using 10 miles of gas (depending on where you live). That's a lot of waste.

If you do lie in a city, then the driver's are fine with short trips, especially since they get a gas surcharge per trip now.

Nah they are there to take u wherever u want to go, but there is a minimum charge that they must charge u wherever u are going.

The taxi driver is just trying to earn a living.  Since their living comes largely from tips, all you have to do to not make anyone mad is give them a good tip.
