In general, not just in the USA, but certainly applicable to US presidential candidates without a doubt.

This money could be going to help so many hungry people in the world, don't you agree?

  1. The Canadian political system is set up much differently than the US system.  I do not understand all of the syncracies, but I believe there is a limit on campaign spending.  Elections in Canada aren't anything like in the US.

Yes -- I do think there is too much hoopla with the US elections.  I've never understood the whole concept of trying to make yourself look better by making the other guy look bad.  And I don't quite get why the elections has to take so long -- there seems to be a very long compaign just to figure out who is allowed to run for president, and then the actual election begins.

But I do not think the money should go to the hungry people in the world -- I think it should go to the hungry people in the US.  It's a shame that the world's richest country has so many people that need help.  I, for one, would not judge the US at all if they pulled their foriegn aid out of every other country and took care of their own people first.

I do not mean any offense by that -- I hope that you do not take any offense by my comment.

  2. Spending tens of millions of dollars to try to get a four hundred thousand a year job does seem kind of crazy.

But it's not like the foreign aid budget is being cut.  People give them the money specifically for campaigning.
