  1. It really depends. They will tend to help develop the community. However, from a a people's perspective, they can leave the actual people poor.

Most people if not educated will be tempted to play their hard earn money. This happens a lot. Even casino employees will be temptep to play a few. This diminishes the actual pay that they get and puts it back into the casino.

Casino's are supposed to suck the tourist money, not the people living there but unfortunately both will be affected.

    Good Luck.

  2. they can.

with Casino's nearby some people in the area are likely get addicted to gambling and can loose all their money.

  3. Personal opinion....we have some pretty big and profitable casinos in CT, and you can't really say they have degrading the quality of living, in fact they have provided huge tax revenues......It really comes down to the individual.....you can put lotto tickets out there and if someone has a gambling problem they will buy those until they are poverish

  4. Yes, look at the statistics, go visit an area around one, or just look it up on the internet.

  5. Up to a point. Casino's typically provide low paying jobs. Although some casinos do provide benefits to their employees, they usually pay very little taxes. It is of greater benefit for the gaming corporations to purchase sectors of government than to pay taxes.

Here in Las Vegas, the casinos profit nearly 1 billion dollars a year from gaming alone. This does not include food, hotels, gift shops, etc. We are 49th in student spending. Our social programs and practically non-existent. Even or water is conserved by homeowners so tourists may enjoy one of the hundreds of golf courses the casinos own.

Any industry except gambling would be of better benefit to a community as the casinos do take money back from the residents through gaming.

To witness the poverty and crime ridden areas of Las Vegas, one only needs to go two or three blocks from the strip or Fremont Street. Homeless people and other desperate citizens abound. Metro is very good, but no community can support the force needed when the population swells by 200,000 tourist each weekend.

With the swell in the weekend population, crime goes up accordingly. Robberies, assaults, rapes and even victim-less crime like prostitution increase accordingly or a bit more. People who come here, come with the attitude that anything goes. The city itself even promotes this attitude with the "What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" type advertising.

    I hope this helps.
