I stayed in the regina gran hotel in Salou. And they had a great flamenco show but as the audience were mostly spanish they didn't seem too impressed! I'm just thinking is there a north/south thing going on in Spain?

  1. Catalan people are not Spanish that's where the problem is Catalan people are a suppressed culture

  2. Flamenco comes from the gypsy culture, its only put on here for the tourists, the average spaniard is not interested as it comes from the south, Andalucia is the main source

  3. In general, Catalans do not like flamenco.

Why should they? Flamenco is a Southern Spanish Art Form.

English people generally do not like the Scottish bagpipes; why sould they?

There are fusion groups and curiosities such as Peret but Flamenco in Catalunya is for the tourists and Andaluz immigrants.

  4. Catalunyans are Catalanyuns first and Spanish second.

The Flamenco show you saw was obvoiusly for the tourists . The difference between that and the real thing is vast. In authentic flamenco there is much more technical ability and passion etc. That's why the Spanish audience appeared bored.

  5. Here in Catalunya, it is as one other person said a different culture. But that doesn't mean people don't like flamenco. Some people do and others don't it just depends on their tastes. I personally can't stand the stuff. But there are some fusion flamenco groups that I like. 'Chambo' is a favourite here.

  6. NO IT IS A VERY SERIOUS ART FORM
