Do Chihuahuas need much exercise?

Walking doesn't feel right without a fuzzy companion by your side and my dog has become far too old and can't keep up, he gets tired out very easily. I was thinking of getting a new dog and chihuahuas have crossed my mind but i may be back to square one...do they need a lot of exercise?

  1. 1) your resident dog should be your top priority before considering getting a new dog

    2) if you get a puppy (of any size) it shouldn't be walked more than 5-15 minutes at a time depending on age.

    3) since chis are very small dogs, they have to walk at least 2-3x as much as larger dogs to cover the same amount of ground, so walks should again be limited to 20 - 25 minutes max at one time, even as adults

    4) your resident dog should be your priority (oh, did i already say that?)

  2. no i dont think so

  3. I think all dogs need some amount of exercise - but chihuahuas don't need as much. Talk to a vet.

  4. chihuahuas dont NEED alot of physical excersize, however because there a breed that loves their people they enjoy being with you no matter what.

i know chis who will hike miles a day happily and other who prefer to be carried most of the way...

  5. Yes they do need exercise. But not as much as other dogs.

My chihuahua get 3 hours of my time a night for play. And a walk before Bed. He does very well at home while I'm at work. He has his toys and plays with them but just mainly sleeps.

But if you are getting a new dog to replace your old one. You should really think if that is fair to the dog you already have.
